Someone’s celebrating a very special birthday on-site today as our gorgeous orang utan, Jorong, turns 21!
And keepers treated the alpha male to his very own key to the door and a birthday cake, topped with his favourite grape treats.
Upper Primates Senior Keeper, Sophie Dugmore, pictured left, said: “Jorong is a very special boy, so we’re making sure he celebrates his milestone birthday in style today.
“He’s been with us at DZG for eight years now and it’s been great to see him grow.
“He was only a teenager when he first came and he didn’t have his flanges but he’s since developed into a strapping alpha male, although he’s still quite a softy.”
Orang utans typically life up to 35 years in the wild and 60 years in captivity so Jorong is a mere youngster in comparison!
If you’re on site today, remember to vist the orang house and wish Jorong many happy returns!
