There’s less than one month to go until we turn 80 and Take a Walk on the Wild Side for our critically endangered Bornean orangutans.
We’ll be turning back the clock on Saturday, May 6 – our actual opening date – and encouraging visitors to join our 5km sponsored walk around the zoo’s 40-acre site to raise money for towards our ambitious anniversary appeal to raise £800,000 for a new separate outdoor space for our much-loved great apes.
Marketing Manager, Andrea Hales, said: “Our anniversary is fast approaching and we’re looking forward to marking DZG’s past 80 years, celebrating our present and fundraising for our future projects.
“We encouraging our supporters to join in the fun and dress in clothing from the zoo’s opening era – the 1930s / 1940s – or in fancy dress and then join us for a party in the castle courtyard during the afternoon, where there’ll be birthday cake and entertainment.”
The walk starts at 11am and registration costs £6 per adult and £3 per child (3-15 years) which includes zoo admission. Up to four spectators per participant will be admitted at a discounted rate of £7 per person, which need to be purchased prior to the date.
Everyone is encouraged to raise at least £50, with every penny put towards the new enclosure four our four critically endangered great apes, with the aim to start work within three years.
