Distance was no object for one young animal lover, who travelled overseas to become a Little Zoo Keeper at DZG.
James Evans from The Netherlands spent his 12th birthday in Dudley, as he helped keepers care for some of the site’s smaller animals and not even the rainy weather put a dampener on his special day.
James said: “I really enjoyed the experience and it was a really good opportunity to get closer to the animals.
“All the activities were fun and very interactive and our keeper was very informative and friendly.
“I especially enjoyed being able to go in with tapirs and feeding the penguins. It was a brilliant birthday present.”
James’s mum, Rosalind, said: “My sister lives in Worcester and suggested the idea and DZG was reasonably priced compared to other similar experiences and it was great that he was actually able to do it on his birthday.”
