Our three Brazilian tapir are in for plenty of cuddles today as keepers take time out to mark World Tapir Day.
Dad Chico, Mum Meena, both 12, and their five-year-old son Ronnie are being treated to lots of fuss and hugs and even some special grooming from keepers in their South American paddock.
Smiles all round! – Chico enjoys some extra fuss on World Tapir Day
The family are part of DZG’s international conservation programme for these endangered creatures and are one of our most popular species on site.
Earlier this month DZG funded a £3,500 research project into tapir reproduction, which experts hope can be used to increase breeding rates in the future.
Come and say hello to the tapir trio if you’re with us today!
