It’s going to be a grrreat day!

There’s grrreat excitement at DZG as we celebrate Global Tiger Day!

Daseep and Joao are ready and waiting to meet visitors and help raise awareness for tigers in the wild – where there’s less than 3,500, of which there’s just 300-400 surviving Sumatrans just like our magnificent pair.

DZG CEO Peter Suddock, pictured below, said: “It is vital that we play a pivotal role in the survival of these enigmatic animals, who are facing possible extinction.

“Visitors constantly tell us tigers are what they want to see, so it’s important that we get the message across about their future.

“We’ve got lots of tiger-themed activities taking place on site today to help raise awareness of tiger conservation, so we hope visitors will join us and discover more about the two tigers we have here at DZG, as well as their cousins in the wild.”

There’ll be two special tiger talks at their Tecton enclosure at 12.30pm and 3.15pm, where visitors will be able to discover more about Global Tiger Day as well as DZG’s ongoing tiger conservation work and find out more about Joao and Daseep – who is the face of 21st Century Tiger’s international campaign.

Keepers will also be giving the pair enrichment activities, so make sure you catch them delving into their goodies!

As well as the talks, make sure you visit the Discovery Centre, where there’s a Global Tiger Day display and staff will be showing some tiger bio-facts.

Little ones can also make their own tiger masks and complete tiger activity sheets, including a colour-in Daseep sheet.

And that’s not all… make sure you hunt out our onesie-wearing staff who will be handing out Global Tiger Day stickers to visitors and face painters will be on hand to transform people into big cats to show their support for the cause.

And there’s even a chance to take home a tiger for tea if you buy a raffle ticket to win an extra large tiger cuddly – worth £49.95 in the Safari Shop – with all money raised helping tigers in the wild.
