Today’s the day we’re wishing a very happy first birthday to our adorable young gelada, Dendi.
The birthday boy, the second youngest gelada at DZG, is one of the most playful in the breeding group and enjoys nothing more than a good cartwheel down the bank of their new enclosure.
And grated carrot – Dendi’s favourite – will definitely be on the menu for the special occasion.
Senior Primate Keeper Jodie Dryden said: “Dendi is very playful but is also a mummy’s boy. We have stashed some grated carrot in a pile of hay and he will love sifting through it to pick out his favourite food.”
Dendi was born to mum Addis and dad Ebano on December 21, 2017 and is named after Mount Dendi, the second highest volcano in Ethiopia which is the native home of the species.
