Irish charm at DZG

Doug Leddin and Carol Huet travelled all the way from Ireland to become DZG keepers for the day.

The couple – pictured above – from Dublin, said the experience was one of the best things they had ever done, as they met some of the rarest animals in the world – including Asiatic lions, Sumatran tigers and Humboldt penguins.

Doug, aged 25, who treated girlfriend Carol to the trip for her 22nd birthday, said: “It was such a great day and it’s such good value for money. The keepers we met were great and really enjoyed what they do.

“The chance for us to feed the tigers and snow leopards was fantastic as well as meeting the chimps, but our favourite bit had to be feeding the penguins and getting covered in lemurs.

“Everything was great including experiencing a giraffe so close to your face and being able to see the behind the scenes of the animal houses was also fantastic.

“We would recommend Dudley Zoo to anyone looking to do a zoo keeper experience and have been telling everyone about it.

“The staff were so polite, informative and friendly and all portrayed Dudley Zoo in a fantastic manner and are one of the main reasons why we would return and recommend it to others.”
