Huge thanks to Homebase Oldbury who donated a van load of plants to us for our Songbird Crisis campaign.
The selection of greenery has been used to make a wonderful display in our Rainforest Room to raise awareness of the plight of Asian songbirds, many who are stolen and sold as pets or entered into singing contests.
Over the next year and a half DZG has pledged to pull in €2,000 for the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) Conservation campaign ‘Silent Forest, Asian Songbird Crisis’.
DZG Conservation Officer, Chris Leeson, who constructed a jungle and street market display with Birds Section Leader, Nicola Wright, using the foliage, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Homebase who not only responded to our plea for help immediately, but donated a variety of plants of all shapes and sizes to us, which has enabled us to create an immersive environment for our campaign.”
As a thank you to the Oldbury team, we donated four family DZG tickets to the store to help them raise funds for their own in-store charitable efforts.
