How Crumpet stays toasty!

Worcestershire youngsters got up close to Crumpet the chinchilla and learned how the critically endangered creatures adapt to the cold.

weboasis_editThe pupils, from Oasis Academy in Warndon, took part in an Iceworld Explorer workshop in our Discovery Centre.

The five and six-year-olds were taught how animals from Antarctica and the Arctic coped with the chilly environments.

Presenter Dorrie Hall, pictured right leading the workshop, said the Year 1 children enjoyed meeting Crumpet, a female chinchilla.

She said: “The children really loved stroking Crumpet’s soft fur and learning how it’s that thick coat which helps the species adapt to cold places.”
