Highly recommended!

A Telford animal lover who became a DZG Keeper for the Day said the experience was so brilliant she’s recommended it to all her friends.

Jodie Mortimer, who shared the experience with her partner Jack Close, said going behind the scenes and getting so close to our animals was magical.

She had been given the experience as a birthday present and the pair, both 28, shadowed keepers on the birds, ungulates, big cats and primates sections during the action-packed day.

The couple got to feed our penguins, giraffes, sea lions and tigers. They also got close to our tapirs, spider monkeys, cheeky lemurs and orangs.

Jodie said: “This was one of the most amazing experiences. It was everything I’d hoped for and more!

“It truly was magical being up close and personal to the animals and getting to hand feed the giraffes. The tigers honestly took my breath away, I can’t even describe how incredible it was to get so close to them.

“The keepers really are a credit to the zoo and so friendly and welcoming. We really had a fantastic day and would do it again in a heartbeat! I’ve already recommended it to so many friends who are now interested.”

All purchases of adult and little zoo keeper experiences are going towards our £800,000 fundraising appeal to build a new outdoor enclosure for our four Bornean orangutans, Benji, Jorong, Jazz and Sprout, which we’re aiming to start work on within three years.
