It’s Mothering Sunday and we’re celebrating mums of all shapes, sizes and species today!
We’ve got lots of amazing mums here at DZG from experienced mums like Phoebe the ring-tailed lemur, who gave birth to her 12th baby last week, to new gelada baboon mum, Jimma – pictured above – who is successfully rearing her firstborn, Gimbi.
And Lower Primates keepers snapped this lovely photograph of two year-old baboon, Billie, giving his auntie the perfect Mother’s Day treat, by entertaining Gimbi, while she had a well-earned rest!
Keeper, Jade Reddall, said: “What mum doesn’t want five minutes to herself and Billie was super cute as he lovingly carried around his younger brother.
“Jimma has taken to motherhood really easily and Gimbi is thriving.”
If you’re spending your Mother’s Day at DZG today, don’t forget to follow our daily talk and feed schedule and find out about some of our mums in our 1,600 strong collection.
And that’s not all as staff in the Oak Kitchen will be serving up a free cupcake to every mother purchasing an adult meal in the Queen Mary restaurant throughout the day.
