Happy International Primate Day!
It’s International Primate Day today and here at Dudley Zoo all 17 of our primate species are extremely special.
Sadly, four of them are in the world’s top 25 most endangered primates, which is why being part of breeding and conservation programmes is so close to our hearts.
The Bornean orangutan, the Sulawesi crested black macaque, the ring-tailed lemur and the Colombian black spider monkey are among the most endangered in the globe.
Take a look at our fabulous video zooming in on our primates from South America, Asia, Africa and Madagascar as we celebrate each and every one in our diverse collection.
DZG’s Senior Primate Keeper, Jodie Dryden, said: “We are very lucky to have so many amazing primates here at Dudley, but with several of them being endangered it’s important we continue to be part of breeding programmes and back global conservation efforts.
“We’re extremely grateful to visitors who support our awareness days and take an interest in ways they can play a part in protecting primates in the wild.”
