Happy DZG Diwali!
Happy Diwali from all at Dudley Zoological Gardens, where some of our animals are getting in on the action!
As part of celebrations to mark the ancient Hindu Festival of Light several species joined the fun and alongide the twinkling lights we’ve been tempting some of our animals with the scrummy smells of authentic Indian food!
Big cat keepers tried out a mixture of spices on five-month-old Carpathian lynx cubs Dick, Dom and Daphne during enrichment playtime by covering hessian in powder and attaching it to a zip wire!
And curry powder was smothered on the scratch post in the snow leopard enclosure, to encourage seven-month-old cub Makalu to test his tracking skills, with a little help from mum, Nanga and dad, Margaash. The species originates from the remotes scree slopes and forest of Central Asia through India, Kazahkstan, Mongolia, Nepal and Pakistan.

Carpathian lynx triplets, Dick, Dom & Daphne are encouraged to track the spices by mum, Daisy.
