A Columbian boa called Columbia took quite a fancy to TV presenter Mike Dilger when he opened our new-look Reptile House on Saturday.
She wrapped herself around his neck ad snuggled in close as he chatted to the crowds of visitors at the launch.
So cosily, in fact, that CEO Peter Suddock had to remind Mike to hand her back to Reptile staff at the end of his speech, concerned he might take her back home for Easter with the Dilgers!
Ecologist Mike, a familiar face on BBC1’s The One Show, said: “It’s fantastic to be back at Dudley Zoo. As a child I lived in Stafford and my first memories of a zoo are of coming to Dudley and striding up the hill.
“As a kid I was absolutely fascinated by zoos and what really set me off was going to amazing zoos like Dudley on my own doorstep; it’s so good to be back.
“The most important thing about zoos is that they give all the kids the chance to see animals they may never see in the wild.”
See Mike on The One Show tonight and Wednesday at 7pm on BBC1.
