A spooky Hallowe’en pumpkin didn’t scare DZG’s 18-strong meerkat mob!
The pumpkin, complete with an intricate owl design, was carved out by CEO Peter Suddock, but didn’t last long once the meerkats got their claws on it!
Assistant Curator, Richard Brown, said: “We treat many of the animals across the site each year with the hollowed-out vegetables, which we fill with fruit and treats.
“It’s great enrichment as it encourages them to hunt out the food and use the pumpkin as a toy; although I’ve never seen the meerkats react to a pumpkin as much as they have with this one.
“They’d pulled off the lid, eaten through the carved owl and were sitting inside the pumpkin within minutes!”
