Halloween high jinks

Our meerkat mob have been entering into the spirit of Halloween today and enjoying a spot of pumpkin playtime.

Senior Keeper Sarah Evans added the hollowed-out fruit, carved with a castle design, to the meerkat enclosure and they soon got stuck in.

She said: “The meerkats loved exploring the pumpkin and having a nibble on the fruit too.

“They immediately rushed up to the strange orange ball and had fun rolling it around. One meerkat was so keen to investigate he almost climbed inside.”

Our four Colombian black spider monkeys also enjoyed some Halloween enrichment last week when we added three pumpkins carved with spooky eyes.

The four made a dash for the pumpkins and feasted on the flesh inside the fruit.

Happy Halloween from everyone at Dudley Zoo!
