Grrr-eat expectations for Global Tiger Day!
There’s grrreat excitement at DZG today as we celebrate Global Tiger Day!
Our wonderful pair of Sumatran tigers, Joao and Daseep, are expecting lots of visitors at their Tecton enclosure where our education team will be set up to share the important conservation message with visitors.
As well as awareness, we’ll be raising funds for tigers in the wild where there are only around 3,200 surviving, which includes between 300-400 Sumatrans just like our two.
Thanks to keen photographer Tal Chohan for his amazing shots of our tigers.
As well as the tiger display and tiger talks, visitors can see our tigers being treated to blood ice lollies and ball games.
There’s even chance to take a tiger home if you buy a raffle ticket to win an extra large tiger cuddly toy.
We also have tiger face painting, tiger colouring sheets and tiger souvenirs and balloons will be on sale in the Safari Gift Shop.
Zoo Manager Matt Lewis said: “It’s so important we spread the message about the dangers these enigmatic animals face in the wild.
“We’ve got lots of tiger-themed activities taking place on site today to raise awareness and much-needed funds for tiger conservation projects.
“We hope visitors enjoy learning more about our two tigers as well as their cousins in the wild.”
All donations and proceeds from the raffle will go to 21st Century Tiger a charity which supports carefully chosen wild tiger conservation projects.
