Greetings from Ow Bin Ya Sands!
Who better to unveil Dudley Zoo’s new bostin’ beach than the Queen of the Black Country, comedienne Doreen Tipton?
We’re delighted the much-loved Black Country star will officially declare Ow Bin Ya Sands open this afternoon – just in time for our May half term visitors to use.
DZG is also proud to be the local pantomime sponsor of Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre production of Sleeping Beauty in which Doreen is appearing from December 8.
And tomorrow and Sunday – to celebrate the opening of the 50ft by 30ft beach – popular children’s entertainers Flip and Dippy will stage puppet shows and demonstrate circus skills between 11am and 3pm each day.
Complete with piles of buckets and spades, two giant deckchairs and plenty of picnic tables, the beach situated at the Zoo’s Sensory Garden will stay in place for the whole summer. It contains 80 tonnes of sand and will keep kids busy in between visiting our animals.
There are also three comedy seaside peep boards giving visitors great photo opportunities to pose as Punch and Judy, Doris and Dick or Thin Tim and Big Bertha.
And we’ve even got special-edition Ow Bin Ya Sands rock for sale in our Safari Shop at 75p a stick or two for £1.
Dudley Zoo’s Marketing Manager, Andrea Hales, said: “We are delighted to have Doreen with us to launch Ow Bin Ya Sands.
“She’s the perfect personality for the honour, being fluent in the accent and starring in the panto at The Grand where we’re the official local pantomime sponsor for this year and Christmas 2019.”
