How do you know if a lion’s constipation is sorted? Simple put edible glitter in his food and get keepers to look out for sparkles in faecal samples!
When 200kg Asiatic male Mwamba’s toilet habits changed over the course of a couple of days big cat keeper, Jay Haywood pictured above added a liberal sprinkling of cake decoration to the nine-year-old’s meaty meals, then explored Lion Ridge for the shining results!
Head of Media and Communications, Jill Hitchman, said: “Keepers needed to distinguish Mwamba’s samples from the other two lions in the paddock so hit on the idea of edible glitter as an identification aid.
“Mwamba didn’t notice the girly pink sprinkles as he was too busy tucking into his lunch and, thankfully, the problem seems to have passed!”
