Glass act for big birthday

Melvyn Lowe loves nothing more than a trip to DZG so when it came to choosing the perfect gift for his 70th birthday, wife Marilyn knew exactly what to do.

The couple visit at least once a fortnight and so she commissioned South Staffs artist, Nadia Lamass to create a one-of-a-kind glass masterpiece based on the attraction.

The 20ins by 15ins artwork features giraffe, penguins, Dudley Castle, flamingos – and of course our cheeky three-year-old Orangutan Sprout.

The couple, from Wordsley – pictured – printed off a small replica of the design to show DZG staff and it got a nod of approval from our 10-year-old female Rothschild’s giraffe Mia.

Mr Lowe said: “We absolutely love the zoo and visit at least once a fortnight. It is one of our favourite places and it is a perfect gift.”
