Our loveable Bornean orangutan, Sprout, woke up to a pile of presents this morning to celebrate her sixth birthday!
Upper Primates keepers left the wrapped gifts outside for the birthday girl to discover and she was straight over unwrapping the paper to get to the tasty treats hidden inside.
Keeper Sian-Leigh Simner, said: “We filled boxes with some of Sprout’s favourite foods, including seeds, primate pellets, tamarin pods and vegetables, which we wrapped in children’s colourful wrapping paper.
“As soon as she spotted them she was straight over and began unwrapping them one-by-one, she even gave mum, Jazz, one to open, but made sure she kept the bigger boxes for herself!”
Why not celebrate Sprout’s birthday by donating to our orangutan enclosure appeal, as we’re aiming to raise £800,000 to build a new separate outdoor area for our critically endangered great apes.
Donations can be sent via our Justgiving page, by texting DZ0037 and the desired amount to 70070.
If you’re visiting today, swing by the orangutan enclosure and wish Sprout many happy returns – she’d love to see you!
