From the Archives

We’ve discovered some interesting old photographs in DZG’s Archive Department linked to yesterday’s story about our rock rolling session at a local sweet factory.

old_Teddy_Grays2-webThese images, which date back to the late 1940s and mid-50s, show Teddy Gray’s delivery van bringing sweet supplies to the zoo, and crowds outside Tecton Kiosk One – bearing the Gray’s sign below a stick of rock logo – which was used to sell confectionery and ice-cream.

Visitors are wearing suits and smart dresses which leads us to believe the snap was taken on a Sunday or Bank Holiday.

At the bottom of the page is a Gray’s advert and map from one of Dudley Zoo’s early guide books.

We’ll be bringing you lots more images from Memory Lane throughout our 75th anniversary year – watch this space!
