An antique French spinning wheel will add a certain je ne sais quoi to our Sleeping Beauty Castle Grotto this Christmas, thanks to eagle-eyed Head of Media and Comms, Jill Hitchman.
Jill said: “We’d been looking for a spinning wheel for a while for our Christmas Grotto, without luck, then last week I was driving through Lye High Street when I noticed the very thing in a shop window.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t stop as I was en route to an appointment so I asked Press Officer, Rachel Hickman, to find out how much it was and, hopefully, buy it.
“The deal was done and I think the shop owner was quite bemused when Rachel turned up in the big zoo van to collect it.” She added: “Apparently it’s French and dates around mid-18th century; it’s exactly what we were looking for and will take pride of place in the grotto within Dudley Castle.”
Sleeping Beauty’s Castle Grotto runs from December 3 to Christmas Eve and includes a magical train ride and show. ALL visits must be pre-booked at least 24 hours in advance.
