Feathered friends were on the agenda when journalist Ron Toft interviewed Curator Matt Lewis for an upcoming feature in Cage & Aviary Birds.
Ron focused on our award-winning conservation programme for Humboldt penguins which Matt helped set up 23 years ago, starting with just five hand-reared birds. We now have the UK’s largest colony with more than 70 parent-reared birds sharing the pool and beach at Penguin Bay.
He also interviewed Head of Birds Section, Kellie Piper pictured above about her training programme with birds of prey for our daily courtyard display and was introduced to a Harris hawk, eagle spotted owl and kestrel who regularly join the falconry team.
