Finishing touches

The finishing touches are being put to the Reptile House’s Rhino iguana enclosure ahead of the return of Trigger and Jane.

Keepers are continuing to revamp the bigger enclosure for the pair and have now built a concrete running waterfall made from natural limestone rocks discovered around the zoo site.

Section Leader, Jay Haywood, said: “We’re getting the enclosure ready for the iguanas and we’re pleased with how it’s looking.

“We’ve tried to keep it as natural looking as possible as their native desert environment and we’ve recycled apple tree branches cut down by gardeners, as well as old buckets which will become plant pots.”

The enclosure also includes double front-opening windows and a training box hidden in a cave at the back, which keepers will begin training the pair to go into to aid health checks.

Huge thanks to Sedgley Road Aquarium for their continued support to DZG.

The team provided the pond pump and also donated bags of blankets during our recent appeal – it’s much appreciated!
