A new Harris hawk has arrived at DZG and is already taking to the skies in our daily bird of prey display.
One-year-old Fawkes, pictured above with DZG Keeper Kriss Pearson, has reached his ideal flying weight and has become a real star in our shows.
Fawkes came to us from a local private breeder three weeks ago and is settling in very well.
Ben Vanes, DZG Senior Bird Keeper, said: “Fawkes joins our other Harris hawk Blake and is getting used to flying in our daily displays.
He said: “Fawkes has achieved his ideal flying weight of one pound six and a half ounces and has been well received by visitors.
“It is an on-going training process with Fawkes and we are getting him used to showing off his flying skills. He’s doing really well and has taken to his new home without any problem.”
See Fawkes in action at our birds of prey show in the Castle Courtyard at 12 noon.
