Ember retains the top spot!

She’s done it again!

Red panda, Ember, has retained the top spot as DZC’s most adopted animal of 2023!

And our marketing team sent out more adoption packages for the two- year-old over the Christmas season than any other species on site!

Marketing Manager Andrea Hales, said: “Ember took the top title last year from our Linne’s two-toed sloths, but has continued to prove incredibly popular with our visitors over the last 12 months, with sloths Flo and Reggie taking second and third place.”

And Ember’s had a busy 2023, not only being joined by a one-year-old male red panda, Carko back in May, but staff also transformed their hillside habitat, building a new large, wooden climbing frame, nesting boxes, an indoor on-show house, as well as installing new fencing, signage and glass windows around a redeveloped public viewing area, which the pandas are making great use of.

Other festive favourite adoptions include Humboldt penguins Bluey, Bingo, Chilli and Bandit.

Andrea added: “We’re extremely grateful to everyone who purchases an adoption package from DZC throughout the year as all money raised goes towards the zoo’s conservation work.”

DZC adoptions start from £41.50, last 12 months and include a personalised certificate, animal photo, zoo admission ticket and gift card, making them great birthday or Christmas gifts, or even treats for yourself!
