Eagle eyed, Emma!

Customer Services Team Member, Emma Dingley, is using her time operating the chairlift to help survey the site’s native birds.

In between helping visitors on and off the two-minute vintage aerial ride, Emma is keeping an eagle eye out for feathered friends.

DZG Conservation Officer, Chris Leeson, said: “We have lots of native wildlife on site which we hope to identify.

“Emma is a keen birdwatcher and when she’s on chairlift duty she’s in a prime location at the top of the zoo site to spot them, so she’s keeping a running checklist for me.

“So far she’s spotted a wide variety of birds including two different species of woodpecker, kestrels, swifts, house martins and ravens.

“We hope to share our findings with other BIAZA collections, who are surveying which species are using zoos as habitats.”

Emma, who holds a trainee bird ringing licence, will also be leading a bird ringing demonstration on site alongside Brewood Ringers, next Saturday, August 26 – and we’ll be detailing more information next week.
