DZG unveils wish list

There’s a new way for our generous supporters to help care for some the world’s most endangered animals – a DZG wish list.

The zoo has created an Amazon wish list offering donors a choice of practical items we need. They can then be purchased online and delivered direct to our Castle Hill site.

RIGHT – Lower Primates Section Leader Nicola Wright shows off our first purchases following an anonymous £50 donation

Items on the list start at around £1 and people can select goods which will benefit their favourite kinds of animals as there are descriptions of what the products would be used for.

For example there’s cardboard tubes which could be filled with treats to provide enrichment for primates and herb seeds which Keepers can grow to give several animals a healthy diet.

There’s also a smoothie maker and a popcorn maker to cook up some treats for the chimps.

An anonymous donation of £50 has got the ball rolling and we’ve already ordered a pile of goodies including baskets for enrichment and a hot water bottle for any animals under the weather.

Lower Primates Section Leader Nicola Wright, who has organised the wish list, said other zoos used the wish list scheme and it was popular with their supporters.

She said: “Quite a few zoos across Britain and Europe have created Amazon wish lists and people seem to like being able to buy something knowing that it will be useful or go to a certain type of animal.

“We will be adding to our list and updating it regularly, according to what we need. We are extremely grateful for all the support we already get from visitors and if anyone is able to help us through this new channel it would be greatly appreciated.”
