An animal-loving youngster hit double figures by celebrating the occasion as a Little Zoo Keeper!
A regular visitor to DZG, Amy Howell from Cannock loved getting the opportunity to go behind the scenes and meet some of our animals for her tenth birthday with the encounter with the tapirs topping her favourites list – where keepers snapped this cheeky photo of Chico sticking his tongue out at the camera!
Amy said: “I liked it when the penguins all came running up to me, but I loved hugging the tapir and feeding the meerkats was fun, but the mealworms kept wriggling off my hands.”
During her experience Amy began her day helping muck out the farm animals, before moving to the top of the site to meet some of our bigger residents!
Dad, Martin said: “Seeing the children hugging the tapirs, it was difficult to know who was enjoying it more the children or animals.
“She also enjoyed the penguins and the meerkats, although the tapirs were definitely her favourite and she was also pleased she got to meet a capybara who came over to investigate what was going on.
“We were amazed at how much was squeezed into the day, it was great value for money. She’s now looking forward to doing the adult version when she’s a little older.”
