Animal fan Lydia Diponio just couldn’t wait to be eight so she could become a DZG Little Zoo Keeper.
The Walsall schoolgirl, pictured below left, came to feed and care for our animals on the day of her 8th birthday making her one of the youngest Little Zoo Keepers we’ve had on site!
And her 10-year-old-brother Leonardo (pictured above right), who also goes to Bentley West Primary School, joined her on the day.
Their dad Carlo – our very own Construction Supervisor said they enjoyed the experience immensely which involved working on the farm, feeding the penguins, tickling the tapirs and holding creatures in the Discovery Centre.
Carlo, from Willenhall, said: “Just seeing their faces light up when they got so close to the animals was amazing.
“It was with the tapirs where Leonardo and Lydia couldn’t stop smiling. The tapirs just rolled over and let them tickle their bellies like big dogs. They loved feeding the penguins too.
“Working here as a builder I knew it would be a good experience for the children, but it was better than I ever thought possible and something they will remember for a very long time.
“They are still talking about it and have been telling all their school friends about their animal encounters.”
