Staff are counting down to tomorrow’s launch of our much-loved chairlift.
Final checks are taking place and today’s test runs will see visitors including CEO Peter Suddock pictured above hopping on and off the aerial ropeway which last operated in 2002. Incidentally, all those 80kg sandbags we used yesterday morning to load-test the chairs won’t be wasted they’ll be used for concreting fencing and posts around animal enclosures!
And to make sure our younger visitors pass the height test Presenter Becky Iwahashi has created a special penguin guide chart that indicates the required 1.1metres.
Tomorrow’s official ceremony, which will be carried out by BBC Radio WM presenter Jenny Wilkes, follows a three-month £117,000 Heritage Lottery-funded refurbishment of the country’s only vintage chairlift and will take place at 11am . . . watch this space.
