DZG’s Colombian black spider monkeys are helping us raise awareness of Earth Day with some themed enrichment.
The annual international awareness day celebrates the planet and focuses on the environmental issues it faces, aiming to encourage people to be greener.
Recycling newspaper, Lower Primate keepers made papier mâché globes, which they filled with vegetable and seed treats for Valentine, Charlie, Chester and Evita to enjoy.
Senior Keeper, Jodie Dryden, said: “To protect the earth for generations to come, we need to take action now and even simple changes can make a huge difference.
“We thought the globe enrichment was a fun way to help spread the Earth Day message to visitors and our spider monkeys were certainly appreciative.
“We placed the globes around their climbing frame and left them to discover their treats and they were ripping them open and using their prehensile tails to hang from the ropes to reach for the hanging globes, which is just as they should do.”
So this Earth Day, how could you go greener?
