Capybara’s muddy games

The tail end of Hurricane Bertha brought fun and games for one of DZG’s capybara.

The recent windy and rainy weather formed a muddy wallow in the corner of the South American paddock, much to the amusement of one of the enclosure’s residents, who soon delved in for some playtime!

Ungulates Team Leader, Jay Haywood, said: “Capybaras do enjoy lying in mud and water when it’s hot as it conditions and cools down their skin, but this one came out of this wallow a completely different colour!

“He was covered head to hoof in thick, black mud that stuck to him for ages, although it was quite funny to watch as he rolled about in it.”
