Bunk with the Beasts

A double Bunk with the Beasts experience for Kingswinford–based 1st Dawley Brook Scout Group proved a huge hit with 60 youngsters who took part during two weekends.

bunk-with-beasts-webBeavers spent their evening with Baron Dudley – aka Senior Presenter David Riley – who talked about horrible history before leading a torchlit walk around the site.

Later they slept in the allegedly-haunted grounds of Dudley Castle and the next morning took part in Wake Up the Zoo, feeding tapirs, penguins, giraffes, sealions and meerkats.

Scout Leader, Dawn Rides, said: “We all learnt a lot of interesting animal facts, and it was a full morning’s work doing the feeding – we only just managed to complete the tasks before all the mums and dads arrived.”

The second weekend for the Cubs involved a ghost walk, and late night vigil, and they also helped to feed animals the following morning.

Dawn added: “The weekends were absolutely marvellous for everyone, and a big thank you must go to DZG.

“Months later we are still talking about the experiences!”
