Our primates are enjoying Christmas Day leftovers as our keepers whip them up a traditional Boxing Day dish!
The likes of our chimpanzees, howler monkeys and gelada baboons will be tucking into lashings of bubble and squeak made up of yesterday’s surplus veggies, including potatoes, peas, sprouts and carrots from keepers’ roast dinners!
Lower Primates Keeper, Jade Reddall, pictured, said: “Bubble and squeak is not just a delicious recipe to use up leftovers for humans, but animals such as our primates appreciate it too and we make it in exactly the same way, dry frying it in a pan to crisp it all up so it’s a lovely and warm occasional treat for them to enjoy.”
After yesterday’s festivities we’re open as normal today.
If you’re visiting, make sure you pay a visit to black howler monkey, Tyson, who’s celebrating his fourth birthday – and had his bubble and squeak delivered complete with a carrot candle!!
