Birthday boys and girls!
There’s celebrations across the zoo site today as four of our animals are celebrating birthdays.
Sumatran tiger, Joao turns four, Jimandi the Bactrian camel is six today, collared lemur, Pipkin celebrates his 19th birthday and Florence the black lemur marks her tenth year.
And big cat keepers marked our handsome male, Joao’s big day with an Easter egg hunt.
Senior Keeper Sarah Evans hid meat filled papier mâché eggs around the tiger Tecton enclosure before letting the birthday boy out to discover his gifts and there was no stopping him once he got on the meaty scent trail!
Sarah said: “As his birthday falls on Easter Monday we decided to do an egg hunt tiger style!
“Chocolate wouldn’t have gone down well, but his favourite chunks of beef hidden inside the eggs did the trick and he quickly demolished them when he spotted them on the climbing frame.”
