Birds going cheep!

DZG has taken delivery of its own collection of colourful songbirds to help in an international crisis – but these are the soft and cuddly kind!

Our Safari Shop is selling a selection of plush birds which make an authentic bird call – and for each one sold, £1 will be added to our Songbird Campaign.

As we announced earlier this week, the zoo has pledged to raise awareness and €2,000 for the ‘Silent Forest, Asian Songbird Crisis’ – EAZA’s global campaign to protect the threatened songbirds of Southeast Asia.

Many beautiful birds are stolen from the forests to take part in singing contests or traded as pets.

At DZG, there are 21 cuddly birds available, priced £8.99 each, and all species are found in the British Isles. Sold in conjunction with the RSPB, each bird comes with facts and figures about habitat and migration patterns.

DZG Retail Manager Isobel Blackwell, said: “These birds are a great for helping people learn different bird calls but are also playing a part in saving birds in the wild.

“Every pound we can add to our Songbird Crisis appeal will help protect a huge variety of beautiful songbirds of Southeast Asia which are in real danger.”
