Bird keepers’ eggs-tra care
Bird keepers are offering a little eggs-tra incubation care to ensure successful hatches for a variety of rare and exotic chicks.
Birds Section Leader, Kellie Piper – pictured said: “Sometimes females just don’t sit on their eggs, particularly if they are first time mums, so we give them a little help.
“After checking if the eggs are fertile we pop them in our incubator and wait for them to hatch.”
Keepers use the candling method to check if eggs are fertile, by shining a bright light through the shell, which shows the developing chick inside.
