Ben’s amazing birthday treat!
Animal-mad Ben Phillpott had the most amazing 14th birthday when he became a DZG Keeper for a Day!
Fourteen is the minimum age for our day-long adult experience and Ben couldn’t wait for his birthday to be able to take part, having previously already completed a Little Zoo Keeper experience in 2017.
During his day Ben shadowed staff and got a unique insight into the life of a keeper, while meeting some of the rarest animals in the world, including giraffes, lemurs and flamingos.
Ben, from Smethwick, said: “It was a privilege to be able to get close to the animals at the zoo and seeing areas of the zoo that I had never seen before.
“All of the zoo keepers were amazing and I learnt so much not only about the animals but also about conservation and how we as consumers can do more to help save species such as the orangutan.
“I had an amazing day and can’t wait to do it again.”
