Keeper for the day Charlotte Triggle made an impression on our male orang utan Benji who was fascinated by the tattoo on her wrist.
The orang utan fan (pictured above) from Fleckney in Leicestershire had particularly been looking forward to meeting our apes and couldn’t get over the behaviour of Benji (shown right).
Charlotte said: “Benji was amazing. He was so friendly and obsessed with the tattoo I have on my wrist.
“It’s a tattoo of a bracelet with charms on and Benji was kissing my hand through the glass. It was so funny, he was a real charmer!
“The whole day was fantastic and the knowledge of the keepers was incredible. They were so friendly and let me pick their brains about all the animals, answering all my questions.”
Charlotte said other highlights were cuddling the tapirs and feeding the snow leopards and said her husband Eddie, who treated her to the experience as a birthday present, and their children loved watching her in action.
She added: “I fed the penguins, the giraffes and Oba the sealion, met the chimpanzees and hand fed the tigers.
“It was such a personal experience and the keepers were great at chatting to the children and involving them in my special day.”
Come back and see Benji and the rest of our animals some time, Charlotte!
