Bagging beech for bedding
Presenters have been busy collecting leaves to provide new bedding for cockroaches based in the Discovery Centre education block.
Langan Turner and Dorrie Hall, pictured right, collected fallen leaves from around the penguin enclosure.
Langan said: “Beech and oak are best for the cockroaches and they do nibble on the centres of the leaves, too.
“After we’ve collected new leaves we put them in a bag in the freezer overnight to kill any bugs and then defrost them before putting in the new bedding.”
