Aviary enrichment

It’s the first day of spring and keeper Kriss Pearson is hoping his artistic talents will attract the birds!

Bird keeper Kriss has disguised a thick plastic pipe as a hollow log, which can be filled with mealworms to provide enrichment for our feathered friends and reckons it will make mealtimes more intriguing for residents in our triple aviaries.

He said: “The idea is for the pipe to provide enrichment for the birds who can search for mealworms inside and because it’s hollow, we will be able to keep adding food.

“It’s also portable, so we’ll be able to move it around our aviaries and see what species of birds are attracted to it.”
