Appreciate those owls!
Visitors to DZG on Sunday (Aug 4) will be encouraged to have a real hoot to mark International Owl Awareness Day.
The annual event aims to celebrate the iconic bird species and raise awareness of their plight in the wild and DZG’s Bird keepers will be on hand throughout the day to help spread the message.
Birds Section Leader, Kellie Piper, said: “If you’re on site on Sunday please make sure you visit our owls; there are 217 species in the world, so it’s nice to have a day to appreciate them.
“It’s a species that everyone recognises and one that is very popular with the public.”
DZG has several species including great grey, snowy, barn, burrowing and great horned owls.
Alongside viewing owls flying in our daily Birds of Prey shows, visitors will also be able to find out about UK species from an information stand in the Discovery Centre.
