An extraordinary birthday present

Becoming a Keeper for a Day brought back magical memories for Juanita Haney, who last visited DZG in the mid 1960s.

Juanita (pictured left), from Crick in Northamptonshire, used to live near Wolverhampton and was thrilled when her partner bought her the experience at the zoo she adored as a youngster.

She said: “The whole day was fabulous and brought back so many marvellous memories.

“Dudley Zoo is such a wonderful place and so magical. It’s a garden, a castle and a zoo all rolled into one and the enclosure designs are beautiful.

“It was the most extraordinary birthday present ever and all the keepers were brilliant.  They were so nice and very informative and I can’t thank everyone enough.

“I loved the penguins but cuddling the tapirs with their big snouts was wonderful and feeding the tigers and being able to get so close to them was amazing.”
