Alvin set for Hoppy Easter

Giant English rabbit, Alvin, is set for a hoppy Easter at DZG as the two-year-old male settles into his new home at the Farm Barn.

The bonny bunny will be joining our eggs-travaganza as youngsters take part in our annual Easter Trail (March 29 to April 14) with a free chocolate surprise for the first 500 entries on Easter Sunday.

There’s also a chance to enter our prize draw to win a year-long adoption package for Alvin – who weighs in at a whopping 15lbs (6.9kilos) – plus zoo tickets.

And for crafty young visitors there are Easter activities in the Farm Barn and Discovery Centre including a colouring competition and costume character Easter Bunny will be on site to meet and greet visitors during March 29 to April 1.

Elsewhere across the 40-acre site there’s a chance to get close to female tigers, Tschuna and Daseep via a peek through our glass viewing panel – scary! – and say hello to baby Bongo in Penguin Bay, our walkthrough experience which allows visitors to  get close to our 70-strong group of rare Humboldt penguins – the largest colony of parent-reared Humboldts in the UK. Spring arrivals include a baby ring-tailed lemur and a three-month-old Bennetts wallaby – but you’ll have to be quick to spot him he’s snuggled in his mum’s pouch!

Head of Media and Communications, Jill Hitchman, said: “We’ve got lots lined up throughout the Easter hols so come along and join the fun, there’s something for all ages to enjoy, and a chance to get close to some of the world’s rarest animals and learn about our important worldwide conservation projects.”
