Alternative watering hole!

Despite having a large pool and waterfall in their enclosure, one flamingo decided a puddle offered a much tastier drink!

The rain water puddles formed around the birds’ pool following the recent wet weather, providing a tempting treat for one leggy lovely.

Flamingos have unusual beaks and mouths which allow them to feed in all kinds of water.

They also have rough tongues and small bristles around their beaks which allows them to filter food – they first fill their mouths with water and then force the mud, silt, impurities and water through the bristles, leaving the nutritious food behind.
