All smiles

Two lucky couples were all smiles after winning the terrific prize of tickling our tapirs during DZG’s World Tapir Day event.

The chance to get cuddles with our Brazilan tapir family Chico, Meena and Luna was up for grabs in a raffle during our two-day tapir themed celebrations last weekend.

On Saturday Lauren Crowe and Sean Downey (pictured above left), who were originally from Northern Ireland and now live in Moseley, won the raffle to get a close encounter with the tapirs. They had fond memories of DZG after coming on a date here and were delighted to win the special prize.

On Sunday, pictured above right, our raffle winners were Gareth and Vikki Connell from Telford who came to the zoo as a post birthday treat.

During the weekend Keepers Ellis Robinson and Josh Luxton gave demonstrations on how we look after the animals and talked about the threats the endangered species face in the wild.

Josh said: “Thank you to everyone who donated to our appeal and asked questions about the species.

“We topped £100 and all money raised will go to the World Land Trust to support their conservation work with tapirs.”
