All change in Primate House

It’s all change in the Small Primate House this week where keepers have been moving pygmy marmosets in a bid to establish a new breeding group.

Upper primate section leader, Pat Stevens, said: “We had to catch them all up and scan their microchips to sex them, then put eight females in with the Goeldi monkeys, while the seven remaining males have gone in with the emperor tamarins for company.

“Pygmy marmosets are quite an easy going species and get on with anything, so it’s all going well and we are now planning to bring in a female to pair with our new dominant male to create another group.”
