Assistant Curator, Richard Brown, and keeper, Jay Haywood, joined staff from 14 giraffe collections across the UK in a workshop to share best practice.
Richard and Jay were among more than 30 ungulates keepers who attended the January 17 event at Flamingo Land, North Yorkshire.
Jay said: “Some of the keepers at the workshop were new to the job and really benefited from others’ experiences.
“I gave a presentation about caring for pregnant giraffes which many of the keepers found helpful, and Richard and myself also came back with a few new ideas.
“Some were simple little things that can make a difference, like drying out nettles and mixing them with hay for winter feed, which we will definitely be trying out on our three Rothschild giraffes.”
